Finalist for Norway's Smartest Industrial Company 2024 Award

Hycast is proud to announce that we are among the three finalists for the Norway's Smartest Industrial Company 2024 award.

For more than 30 years, Hycast has been a leading and world-class provider of aluminium casthouse technology. We are a game-changer, delivering next-generation casting technology, and our customers describe us as innovative, service-minded, and quality-focused. Therefore, we are truly proud to be nominated for Norway's Smartest Industrial Company.

The jury’s criteria:

Norway's Smartest Industrial Company is a company that embraces new technology and utilizes the opportunities presented by digitalization, robotics, artificial intelligence, and efficient organization. The key is to create innovation, productivity, and sustainability throughout the value chain, in logistics and production, and in supplier and customer relationships.

Another important criterion is that the company has a financial surplus. It is then crucial to have a good business model that provides satisfactory financial margins. The jury will also assess whether the company has managed to adapt to changing market needs and stricter climate requirements.

The companies must have demonstrated results in tough international competition, preferably in the export market. However, success is not just about becoming the best yourself, but also about making others better. Collaboration and knowledge sharing lead to better results if companies contribute to creating a strong industrial environment around them.

The "Norway's Smartest Industrial Company" competition therefore looks for companies that ensure their competitiveness in the smartest possible way, especially through technology and digitalization.

Sustainability and environmental issues are also important factors in the competition. Smart use of resources is just as important for the economy as it is for the environment - and through the competition, many good examples emerge of companies that are good at precisely this.

The jury's assessment

Hycast AS in Sunndalsøra was founded in 1990 and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Norsk Hydro ASA. They have developed both casting equipment and melt refining equipment for the production of high-quality aluminium for both press bolts and rolling blocks that are completely unique. Their new fully automatic monitoring systems are controlled via a cloud solution, where robots utilize movement mechanisms, wireless communication, high-resolution cameras, and thermal imaging sensors for production monitoring. Inspired by IKEA, Hycast's salesforce will soon be able to design casting lines in minutes with automatically generated 3D visualizations.

The jury is impressed that, despite tough international competition, they maintain a strong market position.
